BUT not from the endangered zebra family... I just bought this from some leaving the Hawaiian Islands. They told me their in-laws lived in S.Africa for many years and brought this back with them -- it has been in the closet and so I do not believe it's ever been used. I was going to use but it's a little bit too big and I have an older felt-lined zebra skin. I paid more than this price, and believe me the quality of this skin is much better.
The zebra lines extend further to the edges of the rug unlike other skins where the zebra lines only go so far. There is a "patch" in --not really noticeable, but I want to point it out (see photos).
I also do not want to speculate why it's there. I researched felt-lined vs natural.
When looking into beauty, there are many people who will prefer to have their zebra skin rugs in their most natural state. In its natural state, the skin will be more beautiful than if it is felted; at least in the eyes of the people who understand animal skins. The skins that are in the Grade C and Grade B categories are generally felted.
For the vendor to make more items out of a Grade C skin, they have to felt it so as to make the item sturdy as well as durable. I guess felt or not-felt is a personal preference. I have a dog and I will say the felt seems to act like a lint roller and collects all the dust, which detracts from the zebra rug's beauty... Unless I want to vacuum everyday! I love my zebra rug against my brown marble floor.
